Expedition Fund & Grants (Expedition Fund & Grants)

There are various rules for expedition grants:

1. Grants will only be awarded to expeditions which can demonstrate a worthwhile contribution to mountaineering e.g. new or pioneering routes and/or significant environmental/scientific aims. These are likely to be for the Greater Ranges or isolated areas.
   
   
2. The grant applicant must be a current AAC(UK) member and only those expedition members who have at least three years continuous membership (including the year of the application) will qualify for a grant.
   
   
3. Grants are allocated on a per person basis and are unlikely to exceed £500 per person or £1,500 per group.
   
   
4. A member can only qualify for one grant per year. A member who applies in consecutive years will only be eligible for a maximum grant of £300 in the second and following years and the maximum grant for the group will be reduced to £1000. This does not apply to re-applications following postponements or cancellations of expeditions previously awarded grants.
   
   
5. Grant applications must be received at least 2 months prior to the start of the expedition.
   
   
6. Expeditions must be organised by Club members themselves and we cannot consider any expeditions which are organised by a commercial operator (except for support from local agents in the destination country).
   
   
7. It is a condition of receiving an AAC(UK) grant that you comply with the current regulations of both your own country and the countries you propose to visit. These may include travel regulations or advice, payment of peak fees, the insurance and equipping of porters, the employment of a Liaison Office and the deposit of environmental, customs and rescue bonds.
   
   
8. Before a grant is paid you must provide evidence that the expedition is going ahead e.g. travel bookings, and that you have purchased carbon offsets for all travel involved.
   
   
9. Any grants paid must be returned if an expedition is cancelled or postponed to another year. For expeditions that are postponed a new application is required if there are any major changes, particularly of personnel.
   
   
10. If an expedition is postponed to later in the year, or there are major changes in the proposed destination/group composition, the Committee must be informed so that any grant awarded can be reconsidered.
    
    
11. In return for a grant, we expect to receive an Expedition Report (the format of AAC(UK) Expedition Reports is specified on our website). These reports will be made available in the members section of our website. In addition, we expect to receive either an article for the Club newsletter (1,000 words with accompanying photos in jpeg form – not embedded) or the presentation of a lecture to the AAC(UK) at one of our regular lecture venues in London and Reading (or possibly at our autumn AGM). It is possible for the lecture to be given virtually in order to avoid unnecessary travel. The AAC(UK) grant should also be mentioned in any other publications in which the expedition is featured.
